The World’s Largest Bike for St Clare Hospice

At Hashtag Big Smile, we believe that sometimes the biggest impact comes from the boldest ideas.

Projects that capture attention.

Projects that bring people together.

Projects that turn creativity into real, tangible support for those who need it most.

Our work with St Clare Hospice is a perfect example of that.

St Clare Hospice provides vital, compassionate care to people facing life-limiting illnesses, as well as ongoing support for their families. Their work touches countless lives across the local community, offering dignity, comfort and care during the most difficult times.

But like many hospices, their services rely heavily on fundraising and community support.

So we set out to do something different.

Something impossible to ignore.

Together with Alloy Fabweld, we helped bring to life an extraordinary idea—the creation of the world’s largest bicycle.

This wasn’t just a stunt.

It was a statement.

A statement about what can be achieved when creativity meets purpose.

The bike itself was a huge engineering challenge. Designed and built at a cost of around £30,000, it pushed the boundaries of what’s physically possible—an oversized, fully functional structure that demanded precision, innovation and serious craftsmanship to bring to life.

And it worked.

The project captured national attention, even featuring on the BBC News, drawing widespread interest and engagement from the public.

More importantly, it raised over £40,000 for St Clare Hospice.

That’s the real story.

Not just what was built—but what it achieved.

Because every pound raised helped support the hospice’s essential services, from patient care to family support, ensuring they could continue making a difference when it matters most.

For us, this project perfectly represents what Hashtag Big Smile stands for.

It’s about thinking differently.

It’s about using creativity, skills and resources to generate real impact.

And it’s about recognising that fundraising doesn’t always have to follow the traditional route—sometimes, the most powerful ideas are the ones that make people stop, smile and take notice.

That’s exactly what this did.

It brought people together.

It sparked conversations.

And it turned something ambitious into something meaningful.

Alongside our continued support of St Clare Hospice—including over £50,000 in donations and hands-on contributions like the construction of their ambulance entrance canopy—this project stands out as a reminder of what’s possible when purpose drives innovation.

At Hashtag Big Smile, we’re proud to support causes that make a real difference in people’s lives.

And we’re proud to play our part in projects like this—projects that don’t just raise funds, but raise awareness, energy and community spirit along the way.

Because sometimes, making an impact means thinking bigger.

Much bigger.

And when you do, the results can be extraordinary.
